Ukraine says its Unmanned Systems Forces have disabled 300 Russian-linked vessels in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov since the start of a drone campaign in July.
According to Commander Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, the operation began on July 6, 2026, and has targeted vessels described by Ukraine as part of Russia’s shadow fleet.
300 Vessels Reportedly Disabled
Brovdi said Ukrainian drone units have disabled:
- 134 vessels in the Sea of Azov
- 166 vessels in the Black Sea
The vessels reportedly include tankers and dry bulk carriers involved in transporting fuel, energy products and other cargo. Ukraine says the operation is intended to disrupt maritime logistics connected with Russia and Crimea.
The figure is a Ukrainian military claim and has not been independently verified for every vessel.
Black Sea Shipping Under Pressure
The reported attacks are adding further pressure on commercial shipping in the region. Russia has also increased attacks on Ukrainian ports and shipping infrastructure, while some operators have changed routes because of the security situation.
The disruption is also affecting grain transportation. Reuters reported that Russian companies are adapting terminals in Baltic and Arctic ports, including Murmansk and Ust-Luga, to handle grain that would normally move through Black Sea routes.
Marine insurers have also expanded the Black Sea high-risk area as attacks involving commercial shipping have increased.
For shipowners, operators and seafarers, the situation highlights the growing security risks of operating in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov.
